Riveting studs and gems on luxury gator cowboy boots

Riveting studs and gems on Lucero cowboy boots

This client asked for a studded harness for her black gator boots. Each stud had to be hand-riveted onto the belt using a smooth cylindrical tool and hard metal surface. When hammered, the tool drives the double capped rivet into itself, securing it as a permanent bond. When done by hand, riveting a gem can be tricky since you don’t want the surface to get scratched or cracked. For the gems, a soft self healing board is used as a surface with more give.

This process takes great precision and patience, ensuring each stud and gem is properly secured and looks neat. This is a perk of ordering handmade boots. Each part of the boot is customizable, including accessories like this studded harness. On this project there were 56 individually riveted studs and gems. What a feat! I think it turned out wonderfully. What do you think!?

The opportunities with the custom bootmaking process are limitless!
